When blocks become unstuck, regluing is a straightforward process.
The most common glue used to be hot, black bitumen emulsion - a product that is no longer permitted. We therefore have to remove all traces from the blocks and use modern glue for their reapplication.
On occasions, bitumen removal damages the concrete, requiring a fresh levelling of the subfloor.
We often use replacement blocks from covered or secluded areas of another room that is not being restored. Or we track down blocks of similar vintage and quality via our national network of reclaimed wood suppliers.Eco Services in Guildford
Filling gaps gives an even appearance but is a matter of personal preference. They are filled by mixing dust from the second sanding with a resin wood filler.
The final sanding smooths down the whole floor, including the recently-filled gaps.
As with timber boards, the finish on parquet blocks can be hardwearing polyurethane lacquer

The floor’s natural beauty is best brought out by hard wax. It penetrates the wood and leaves an attractive non-glossy finish.
Ask us for advice on the finish you want - and allow us to demonstrate the properties of all the sealants.
Parquet floors are very easy to clean. Just brush and mop with a damp mop when necessary.
Avoid using upright vacuum cleaners - any grit particles in the spinning brushes can scratch the surface.Eco friendly Tradesman
